Konstruct Team Celebrates Announcements with Berlin Trip

Last week we celebrated an incredible flurry of news by inviting our whole team out to Berlin, Germany for the Navigate Europe 2024 conference that we were sponsoring, and then tacked on an offsite while we were all in the city.

The Secrets Are Out!

We wanted to make a ton of major changes and we wanted to give them to you all at once πŸš€. In full stealth mode, our team knocked out an 11-epic saga in single release on a mission we codenamed operation: press release.

  • 🧑 rebranded the company to konstruct
    • πŸ’œ the kubefirst product line and brand remains intact
  • πŸ¦‹ released the debut of colony, an instant bare metal cluster provisioner
  • πŸͺ„ introduced kubefirst pro ✨
    • 🀝 the kubefirst OSS platform remains free open source just as it has for the last 5+ years
  • πŸ‘₯ new account management dashboard at https://dashboard.konstruct.io
  • πŸ’– new marketing site at https://konstruct.io
  • πŸ“– new docs site for colony https://colony.konstruct.io/docs
  • 🎨 new logos for the company, colony, and kubefirst pro
  • 🌐 domain migration of our hosted charts https://charts.konstruct.io
  • βœ… automated release improvements that we're dogfooding internally for eventual oss
  • 🎬 brand shifts throughout the socials
  • 🎁 github migration of our open source to https://github.com/konstructio
  • ☁️ cloud migration of our production and management ecosystem

It took incredible focus and execution during a phase of rapid team growth: we met all of our mission goals, thanks to an impossibly passionate and brilliant team. We're really proud of ourselves for keeping to our schedule with it too.

6 Konstruct Countries, United in Berlin

Our company is fully remote and our team is widely distributed. We live in the US, Columbia, Canada, Ireland, England, and India. We have an incredible pair programmer culture and are online with each other all the time, so being together didn't feel the least bit foreign to us, but it sure did feel incredibly special.

We gave three talks at Navigate and were so inspired by the enthusiastic responses that we received. We offered our guidance on how to build hybrid cloud platforms, how to have a repeatable GitOps platform on your laptop in one command, and using good tech docs as your company's secret weapon. Fred's talk had folks pouring out of the door and cheering from the hallways. πŸ™Œ

Interview with a Legend

I also got an opportunity got to interview my not-so-secret tech hero, Kelsey Hightower at the conference. We explored the future of Kubernetes, platform engineering and abstractions with GitOps, open source in infrastructure, all with the guy who helped so many of us understand how the pieces fit together. It was such an incredible honor to have him on. The video will be released soon.

Offsite Fun

We went to Graffiti Park, a huge publicly funded park dedicated to the art of graffiti, to learn something new and work on something beautiful together. Imagine a team like this being good at something beautiful and new.

We took a boat tour of the city with music and celebration on deck and in all of our hearts. There was dancing. There was singing. There was a team who enjoyed being with one another and appreciated an awesome moment that we worked really hard to see.

Feeling Unstoppable

I'm so grateful that we got to spend such a great time together in person to celebrate all of this huge news, and I'm so incredibly proud of this brilliant, hard working, passionate, and kind team. Something sure is building at konstruct.
